NJ Friendship House is equipped with a full service commercial kitchen facility. Members are able to receive training in many areas of the commercial food industry, including food preparation, cooking and baking, serving, catering and overall kitchen maintenance and cleanliness. Overseen by trained kitchen supervision, individualized instruction and “hands-on” skill development is geared to each member’s level of interest and ability.
Each day the kitchen team prepares and serves breakfast and lunch to fellow members in the Friendship House dining room. In addition, over 1,000 meals are prepared daily for delivery to day care centers, schools and other community organizations.
It’s clearly an engaging day for the members of the Friendship House kitchen crew. Working side by side as a team, achieving their daily goals, builds a strong sense of teamwork, self-confidence and pride.
A member who expresses interest in community employment and demonstrates readiness can be referred by his/her Counselor to Employment Services.
